KALI
Kali Ma is the Black Goddess of the Hindu pantheon, fierce drinker of blood and devourer of demons and delusion. Kala, in Sanskrit, is Time. Kali is The Night of Time; She stands astride the eons. The Dark Mother of a thousand, thousand names, She dances in the cremation grounds and welcomes the very dead back into Her sheltering womb.
At times She turns to us the face of illusion, that we might learn to undeceive ourselves and see more clearly. Even Her fervent devotee Ramprasad declared Her a mad goddess. Kali is Female to Lord Shiva's Male - only She might match Him in the dance. When the Mother mounts the Father's chest, He smiles, for She completes Him: Motion dancing on the stage of Consciousness.
Night of Time
Bear witness, silent witness
as Night dances
on your chest
waving raven feathers
clad
in the skin of a tiger
She is motion
Many-armed Maya
and you are Consciousness
in a serpent noose
Beneath Her feet
you lie prone and smiling
Christ is not an enemy
the skulls of Golgotha
and the Paris catacombs
might be numbered on Her garland
Dangling letters
in a perfect alphabet
Her yoni sacred gateway
to the empty tomb’s promise
and Your lingam
The seed of joy
Laughing loudly, Time is crowned
in endless circles
